S.U.R.E. (Swampscott Unites, Respects, and Embraces diversity[1]) stands in solidarity with the Black Community. We share the outrage in the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other innocent men, women and children killed by law enforcement and vigilantes. We join in the call for justice and reform against systemic racism that is all around us.
We understand that centuries of oppression and injustice can only be changed with social and political action. We support those calling for systemic change to end the racial disparities in our institutions. We support an end to excessive force that has deliberately targeted and brought harm to the Black Community. We commit to do the hard work as individuals and as a
community organization to examine our own racial bias and to learn how to instead be “anti-racist[2]”. We can make progress!
We know that many are looking to find out how to support or learn more about this important issue and we have put together some ideas. There are a lot of resources and the list below is not comprehensive. We would love to hear your recommendations of what to watch, listen and read. Feel free to message us on Facebook or email us at surediversity@gmail.com.
