Formed in 2016, S.U.R.E. Diversity is a volunteer community group that aspires to encourage, educate and collaborate in building a welcoming, nurturing, respectful and inclusive Swampscott community.
Diversity promotes that through understanding that each individual is unique, we can acknowledge and celebrate our individual and group differences. S.U.R.E. Diversity is committed to building individual and community cultural competency* skills and being a voice for promoting diversity and inherent equality for all.

* What is cultural competence?
Cultural competence is the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. … encompasses being aware of one’s own values and worldview, developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences, gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and world views. Simply put it is the ability to understand, appreciate, and interact with people from cultures of belief systems different form one’s one.

Our Community Group
S.U.R.E. Diversity has led numerous campaigns that help to educate, empower and mobilize our community. Through events organized by our dedicated members and in conjunction with community allies, we work to engender meaningful discussions, individual and community assessments, and constructive cultural change.
Movies, Discussions and Speakers
We often will pair a movie viewing with discussion to help our community understand the message.
Gatherings Against Hate
S.U.R.E. Diversity has built an environment of inclusion and support and we often participate in gatherings against hate in our community or nationwide.
